Let’s Grow another Alpaca Scarf- Journey 2

This workshop is for fiber folks that have some or very little experience in one or more of the fiber processes.

In this class we will take another journey to discover the path the alpaca fleece will travel from the alpaca, after shearing day, all the way through the processing steps to become a scarf. Many of you will have experience in some of these processes. This workshop will pull the processes all together and encourage you to participate in a group of like minded fiber folks.

A special class called “Let’s Grow another  Alpaca Scarf – Journey 2”

You will have the opportunity to purchase a 2022  alpaca fleece from one of our very special alpacas and at a 20% discount. Or you can preorder a fleece from shearing day which will be Sunday, May 7th you will receive the 2nds and 3rds from that alpaca at no extra cost.

Then we will process your fleece in class with hands on experience all the way to knitting the scarf. Some experience is expected  and you will need to bring your motivation to share, OH and plan to have fun.

Here’s what we will do in this class:

*First class we will adopt an alpaca. That means you will visit with your alpaca at the beginning of each class. You can take pictures, ask questions, learn to halter and walk it, and more.  Then on the first session you will purchase the fleece from your adopted alpaca.  We will process the fleece together, then make yarn to  knit your scarf. Sound like fun?

Here is more. The class starts May 13, 2023 runs through July 8, 2023.  We will meet each Saturday 1:00 – 4:00. Note- the last Saturday of each month, or there abouts you are invite to join the alumni of other “Journey Classes” Just to return for fun and practice and Talk about your current project, or future projects. It’s a time to connect with other like minded fiber folks and get ideas or answers to questions.

We will have 8 session of instruction, here are the meeting dates – 

May 13, 20, June 3, 10, 17,  July 1, 8,  15

Shearing Day is Sunday, May 7, 2023. Your are invited to come and participate.

** May 27,  June 24 – July 22 – Fiber Pals 1-4 Meet at Quarry Critters Learning Studio,  you are invited

The class cost is $170, plus the price of the fleece you choose and other supplies you might want.

Supplies you will need:

3 ring binder -1 inch to hold notes from instructor, hand carders, spinning wheel or drop spindle, nitty noddy.  all the supplies you need, will be for sale in the shop. (Please consider supporting my local business) , If you happen to have supplies then bring them along.

The class size is very small only 4 participates so let me know if you have interest. First voice gets the first space.

We are going to meet the alpaca, buy it’s fleece, wash it, dry it, skirt it, tumble it, blend it, make into yarn,  and finally knit it into a scarf/shawl. You can brag about making  your scarf / shawl from an alpaca you met, from start to finish. Don’t forget to get a picture with your favorite alpaca.
