White Baby Alpaca Crimped Fleece

One of our favorite creations is our white baby alpaca crimped fleece, made from the luxurious prime coat of our Huacaya alpacas. This fleece is truly something special, showcasing the silky softness, exceptional staple length, and natural warmth that alpaca fiber is known for. The extra-long staple length is perfect for spinning. Plus, its slippery, soft handle means it glides effortlessly through your hands, creating an end result you’ll be proud of.

Crafted with Care

We take tremendous pride in how our fibers are processed. Some of our fleece goes to family-owned mini mills, while other batches are hand-processed right here by Julie on her Kromski spinning wheel. This particular fleece represents our commitment to quality and our love for creating products that are as beautiful as they are functional. Advantageously, our alpaca fleece is sustainable, hypoallergenic, and sourced with care right here in the USA.

Why is crimp important? 

First let it be known that crimp is a natural wave in the individual fibers. How crimp is expressed is determined by genetics. Crimp comes in a variety of sizes or frequency  and can be shallow or deep. Frequency is the number of crimps per inch. Amplitude is the height of the crimp.

The look of the crimp may change during processing but the fiber structure will still be there. A well crimped fiber will retain memory even after it has been processed. A good crimped fiber adds to its elasticity and drape qualities of the fiber.
