Hello to my fiber friends,
QCAR Alpaca Gift Shop has been busy creating and posting new fiber classes. This new schedule of class allows a variety of days and times. Our schedule of classes goes all the way to April, 2022. I hope that you will be able to join us for some learning, or just making a fiber something in a workshop.
Here are some of the classes available in November.
Host a Party – invite your friends to enjoy 2 hours of fiber play. We will provide the fiber and cookie cutters and some instruction. You provide the friends. A needle felting surface and needle will be your only supplies. These are available at the alpaca shop for a discounted price of $5.00. Check out the link with the dates that are available and then invite your friends for a fun get together to make a Holiday ornament.
Decorate a pair of mittens with your own design. Needle felt a flower, hearts or just some swirls. We’ll help you with some ideas and some tips. This can make a unique gift or keep them for yourself. Mittens are available in small, medium, and large. Colors may be available fawn, blue, red, purple and green.
In this 2 ½ session you will learn how we process the fiber. We raise alpacas for their luxurious fleece. So there is no way to begin this class without meeting the alpacas. Then we will tour the processing room and discuss all the processing that is needed. We will have both demonstrations and some hands-on experiences. In the final time available we will tour the alpaca gift shop to see all the wonderful products that are made with alpaca. These items are also for sale. Feel free to purchase if you see something you would like.
This 2 ½ session class is an overview and will move along quickly. It is an educational opportunity for school age to adult. Class size is limited to 6 people.
Cookie Cutter Designed Ornaments
Let’s make an ornament out of alpaca fiber mixed with merino wool. Using the shape of the cookie cutter and poking the needle felting needle into the fibers, causes the fibers to bind together and hold the shape. Once you have the shape, we will help you to add details to make a unique one of a kind decoration. In this 2 hour workshop you can make as many ornaments as time allows.
QCAR Alpaca Gift Shop has needle felting kits that you can purchase and enjoy needle felting at home. All the supplies are included in the kit, including the directions. This workshop allows you to bring your kit or purchase a kit and we will work with you to finish the kit you have purchased.
We will dye alpaca yarn or raw alpaca fibers to change color. The dye pot is one method and hand painting is another. Changing colors using dye can be so exciting as well as fun. Sign up
